Question

A backup job containing multiple Virtual Machines (VMs) on a Sangfor HCI platform results in a partial failure. Specifically, only one VM fails to be backed up while the remaining VMs in the same job complete successfully. Error message as follows:

Job Failed, #[282]HTTP 400 ERROR: incorrect request format

Answer

Issue Description

This issue is caused by a built-in limitation of the Sangfor HCI platform. Sangfor HCI does not allow a virtual machine to have both a "disk snapshot" and a "storage snapshot" existing simultaneously. When a storage snapshot already exists on a specific VM, third-party backup software (like Vinchin) cannot create the new snapshots required for the backup process, causing the backup job to fail for that specific VM.

Resolution

  1. Access the snapshot manager for that VM and manually delete any existing "storage snapshots".

  2. Once the storage snapshot is successfully deleted and consolidated, return to the Vinchin Backup & Recovery system and re-run the backup job for that VM.
