Question
A backup job containing multiple Virtual Machines (VMs) on a Sangfor HCI platform results in a partial failure. Specifically, only one VM fails to be backed up while the remaining VMs in the same job complete successfully. Error message as follows:
Job Failed, #[282]HTTP 400 ERROR: incorrect request format
Answer
Issue Description
This issue is caused by a built-in limitation of the Sangfor HCI platform. Sangfor HCI does not allow a virtual machine to have both a "disk snapshot" and a "storage snapshot" existing simultaneously. When a storage snapshot already exists on a specific VM, third-party backup software (like Vinchin) cannot create the new snapshots required for the backup process, causing the backup job to fail for that specific VM.
Resolution
-
Access the snapshot manager for that VM and manually delete any existing "storage snapshots".
-
Once the storage snapshot is successfully deleted and consolidated, return to the Vinchin Backup & Recovery system and re-run the backup job for that VM.
