Backup Node (Node)

Function:

Execute backup jobs and store backup data

Use Case:

Scale backup infrastructure and reduce primary backup server load

Deployment:

Server in Vinchin cluster (management / extended data node)

Backup Agent (Agent)

Function:

Installed within the business server's operating system to facilitate traditional agent-based backups.

Use Case:

Suitable for scenarios requiring backup Entire Server, File Server, Database, CDP, Replication

Deployment: 

Inside protected VMs / physical machines /Instance (Guest OS)

Transfer Proxy

Function:

Acts as a data transfer agent for virtual machine backup and recovery and to enable the advanced feature like HotAdd transmission for VMware VM Backup.

Use Case:

If you plan to backup your VMware virtual platform through LAN, and your Vinchin server is installed outside the ESXi cluster, you can choose to install a Vinchin proxy VM on the ESXi cluster for implementation of HotAdd transmission.

Deployment: 

Independent VM / physical server

Vinchin Plugin

Function:

Platform adaptation module

Use Case:

When adding virtual platforms such as Hyper-V/OLVM/Sangfor HCI/Citrix/oVirt

Deployment: 

The plugin needs to be installed on the host of the virtualization platform which want to back up, such as Hyper-V, Proxmox, or Sangfor HCI (installation requirements vary depending on the virtualization platform).
