Question
How do I connect a Vinchin backup node to a Vinchin backup server so that the node can be centrally managed?
Answer
A Vinchin node does not have a management web console of its own, so it must be connected to a Vinchin server for centralized management. There are two ways to do it: connect from the backup server web console, or connect from the node CLI (which requires a reboot).
Resolution
It is recommended to use Option 1 for the addition.
Option 1 — Connect from the Vinchin Backup Server Web Console
- Open the backup server web console and go to Resources > Backup Resource > Backup Node.
- Click Add to connect a node to the server.
- If the backup server has multiple networks, select the network to be used in the Master Node IP Address dropdown list.
- In the Slave Node IP Address field, enter the IP of the backup node that was configured during the node installation, then click OK.
- Once the node is successfully connected, it will be fully managed by the backup server from then on.
Option 2 — Connect from the Node CLI (requires restarting the backup node)
- Log in to the backup node CLI.
- Run the following command to configure the node to connect to the Backup Server:
config_server - At the prompt
Current server IP is: 0.0.0.0, please input new server IP:, type in the IP address of the Backup Server and press Enter. - At the prompt
Need to reboot system now [Y/N]?, type Y and press Enter to reboot. - After rebooting, the backup node will be connected to the backup server and fully managed by it.
Troubleshooting
If the node fails to add
- Check that the node services are running: on the node backend, run
If nops aux | grep vinchinvinchinservice process is running, the node installation is likely incomplete or corrupted. - Verify the installation package: check that the MD5 value of the installation package matches the official checksum; if it does not match, re-download the package and reinstall the node.
- Check network and ports between the master node and the sub-node:
- On the backup server web console, go to System Settings > System Tools > Network Tools.
- Select Ping and enter the sub-node IP to verify that the master node can reach the sub-node.
- Select Telnet and test the connection to the sub-node's port 22711 (e.g., telnet to
<sub-node-ip> 22711). - If either test fails, check the firewall / security group and network routes between the two hosts, open the required ports, and retry the connection.
