("Frontier Biotech") is a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company headquartered in China with a global vision and world-class competitiveness, committed to discovering, developing, manufacturing, and commercialization of innovative medicines that improve patient health. Medicines of Frontier Biotech typically address the unmet medical needs of patients in the areas of anti-HIV treatment and pain management, and the company’s first commercial product was approved by the National Medical Product Administration (NMPA) in May 2018 through a priority review process and has gained accelerated approval.

Frontier Biotech uses a virtualization platform as the foundation of its business IT infrastructure, and massive virtual machines in which have been undertaking businesses ranging from research, sales, and management and saving a large amount of data every day. “It is urgent for us to ensure the sustainable operation of the research data systems and realize the centralized data security management.” Said Mr.Zhang.

Vinchin Solution

After onsite evaluation of the virtualization environment of Frontier Biotech, Vinchin deployed the backup and disaster recovery system for the company’s local data center to protect all business virtual machines with adaptive data backup solutions.

Targeting the system characteristics of Frontier Biotech and to further reduce the transmission and storage size of unwanted backup data, Vinchin backup solutions provided with unique BitDetector feature for in-depth data extraction, which in the case of CBT failure and virtual disk pre-distribution/full distribution dives within the system to exclude swap file blocks, deleted file blocks and partition gaps, so as to effectively reduce the size of transmitted backup data and required backup storage. “The feature has greatly helped to eliminate unnecessary data to be backed-up, raising the overall value of backup process.” Said Mr.Zhang.

The backup modes Vinchin provides include separated backup network and LAN-Free backup by transmitting data directly through SAN. “We eventually chose LAN-Free backup mode in light of the characteristics of our virtualization platform, and the result turns out amazing.” Said Mr.Zhang. “By simply clicking the strategy we want in the unified web console, backup on any target VM can be started immediately. The backup scheme which requires no usage of our production network not only minimizes the impact on the production data systems and business network but also maximizes the transmission efficiency of backup data.”
