Error 279: Failed to Create VM During Restoration

Hi everyone,

I'm using RHV 4.4.9.5-0.1.el8ev virtualization environment. When trying to restore a VM, it prompts that creating the VM failed.

Error log as follows:

[ERROR: 279#element not exist in xml document]: create common virtual machine error

What could be the reason? How to resolve it? Thanks!

This error usually indicates that there is an issue with the VM XML configuration during the restore process. It might be caused by missing elements, version incompatibility, or corrupted backup metadata.

I’d recommend checking whether the backup was taken from the same RHV version, and also verifying the VM template, storage domain status, and cluster compatibility level. Reviewing the engine logs (/var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log) may provide more detailed clues.

Add the virtualization using the "ahriman@internal" user (not the "admin@internal" user). Check the permissions of the "ahriman@internal" user and restore them successfully.
