VMware Backup Failure — ERROR:4996 “Download File Error”

Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with a VMware backup task and would like some help.

• Issue Description:
VMware backup is failing and cannot be completed.

• Error Log:

ERROR:4996 # Download file error

• Backend Log:
Additional backend messages also indicate failures during file download triggered by the password parsing issue.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, one likely cause of this VMware backup failure is the presence of a single quotation mark (') in the VMware login password, which can lead to parsing errors during backup operations.

• Solution:
You will need the second-line support team to generate a special version of the program/tool that properly handles passwords containing single quotation marks. Once this customized version is provided, replace the existing program and run the backup again.
