oVirt 4.4 release unleashes an altogether more powerful and flexible open-source virtualization solution that encompasses hundreds of individual changes and a wide range of enhancements across the engine, storage, network, user interface, and analytics, as compared to oVirt 4.3. Focus on the updates, Vinchin Backup & Recovery v6.0 and oVirt 4.4 has delivered a suitable and flexible joint solution.
High Compatibility with oVirt 4.4 backup
Since the oVirt 4.4 release is available now for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.1 and CentOS Linux 8.1 (or similar). Vinchin team updated a new backup plugin patch of Linux 8.1 for oVirt 4.4. With Vinchin Backup & Recovery v6.0, to back up your oVirt VMs, the backup plugin is required to install on the oVirt node. The backup Server will firstly obtain VM info through oVirt RESTful API and notify the oVirt engine to create snapshots for the VM. Then backup Server detects the IP of the host where locates the VM through REST API and connects it to the backup plug-in. the backup server will then extract data from oVirt VM and transfer them to backup storage via the backup plugin.
Instant Recovery & Migration
The release of oVirt 4.4 supports the live migration improvements for High-Performance guests. To keep your business continuity, Vinchin Backup & Recovery v6.0 brings Instant Recovery and VM Migration. Vinchin instant recovery mechanism is mounting the backup storage to a production host via NFS. A new virtual disk image will be virtualized basing on the original backup file and be shared with the newly created VM in the production host via NFS. When the VM is not in production state, you can migrate both the original backup file and new data in the cache file from backup storage to production storage using Vinchin live migration technology or other migration tools.
Back up oVirt engine metadata
The oVirt Engine is a service that provides a graphical user interface and a REST API to manage the resources in the environment. Once the oVirt Engine is installed and you have added Hosts and configured storage, you can now install Virtual Machines. The Engine is installed on a physical or virtual machine running Enterprise Linux.
With Vinchin Backup & Recovery v6.0, you can back up the oVirt Engine metadata, in case that oVirt environment crashes, you can manually restore the oVirt engine from the Engine backup file to keep all configurations in your oVirt environment the same as before.
Cross-platform VM Recovery between oVirt, and Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager
Cross-Platform VM Recovery allows for unrestricted data protection across different hypervisors and cloud platforms. Now Vinchin Backup & Recovery v6.0 supports the Cross-platform recovery between oVirt and Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager.
