At Vinchin, we have always strived to improve our product and keep up with the latest technologies by providing 100% compatibility for every new platform release. While other backup vendors in the market are working on adapting its software to the XCP-ng, Vinchin has now announced its compatibility with the latest version of XCP-ng.
XCP-ng is the turnkey open source hypervisor, which is a Xen Project incubation project hosted in the Linux Foundation and following the fork of the open-source Xen Server project (now Citrix Hypervisor). The primary goal of XCP-ng is to deliver an easy way to deploy a VM based infrastructure using Xen as the hypervisor, and the powerful XAPI to deliver a turnkey, working out-of-the-box solution. As your XCP-ng environment continues to be critical to your business, uptime is more important than ever. Vinchin and XCP-ng have partnered to drive less complexity in your environment while keeping you and your business running and productive.
Seamlessly compatible with XCP-ng
You may be familiar with Citrix XenServer as one of the most popular hypervisors in the world. And XCP-ng is a CentOS-based hypervisor and based on the Xen Server (Citrix Hypervisor), it is considered to be a bare-metal hypervisor. XCP-ng unlocks nearly all of the features from the XenServer commercial edition— for free. The latest official version XCP-ng 8.1 is based on the Citrix Hypervisor 8.1 release, it's worth noting that Vinchin Backup & Recovery v6.0 supports XCP-ng 8.1, to provide you a high-performance and seamlessly compatible data protection solution. Although XCP-ng 8.2 Beta has been available, to make sure the entire infrastructure solution is 100% safe and reliable, we will update our backup compatibility with XCP-ng 8.2 until its official version release.
Help to convert an existing EXT3 storage repository to EXT4
For all new local storage using the EXT filesystem, XCP-ng now defaults to EXT4. It's faster to format on very large disks or partitions. The EXT4 filesystem primarily improves performance, reliability, and capacity. To improve reliability, metadata and journal checksums were added. To meet various mission-critical requirements, the filesystem timestamps were improved with the addition of intervals down to nanoseconds. The best method for upgrading to EXT4 from EXT3 is to back up all the data on the target filesystem partition, with Vinchin Backup & Recovery v6.0 you can reliably backup your data to achieve convert of storage repository.
CBT for XenServer & XCP-ng
CBT is as known as Changed Block Tracking, it tracks the changes of a virtual machine since the last backup, so this technology can be used for incremental backup of virtual machines. By using CBT technology, it tracks the changes of a virtual machine from a CBT log file instead of by comparing the last backup with the virtual machine's disk snapshots, this can rapidly locate the changes of a virtual machine since the last backup, so it can greatly reduce the amount of time for incremental backups. And also, it can dramatically reduce the backup storage usage by storing the new and changed data. Now, CBT is available on Vinchin backup &recovery v6.0 for not only XenServer but also XCP-ng.
The XCP-ng team provides a pro support option for production environments, Vinchin Backup & Recovery has perfect support for your data security. Vinchin support for XCP-ng is a win-win relationship. It gives personal users access to an awesome and complete virtualization solution and provides a guarantee for companies that the project won’t stop growing anytime soon, and at the same time to enhance security around the most critical business information.
